A fond farewell Ms McDonnell

28/10/2022

There wasn't a dry eye in the house today as we said  'Auf wiedersehen' to Ms McDonnell!!!

Ms McDonnell joined the staff in Tang NS in 2014 and absolutely hit the ground running and never stopped since. She worked tirelessly over the years showing huge dedication not only to the children in her class but the entire school community and staff. She became our Deputy Principal and indeed very ably led the school as Acting Principal on two separate occasions over the years. Her work as Deputy Principal and teacher nominee on the board of management has shaped and formed our school into the caring, nurturing environment it is today where all feels safe and welcome.

We would like to acknowledge the trojan work and huge contribution she has made to our school. Starting our first ever Grandparents Day, running fundraising events, organising sports day, liaising with the Irish American Partnership, and keeping constant tabs on updating school policies were just some of the task she took on and made look so easy.

Having taught so many of our children over the years, and having such a profoundly positive effect on them, we want to say that she will be sorely missed by us all and we wish her nothing but THE VERY best of luck and happiness as in her new school.

Goodbye and Best Wishes to Mrs. Ganly

27/10/2022

We bid another sad farewell to one of our teachers yesterday. Mrs. Ganly is off to pastures new and we wish her the very best in her new school. She set up our Green Schools committee 8 years ago, and as a result of her commitment, we have 4 Green Flags and are working on our 5th.  She always had so much enthusiasm for projects and science experiments and learning in her class was lots of fun. She also headed the Friendship weeks each year, and ran many competitions for Wellbeing and Friendship throughout the school. Mrs. Ganly has been a teacher in Tang N.S. for 12 years, she is an incredibly hard-working teacher and will be very much missed by our school community.

Biodiversity Talk (Heritage in Schools)

27/10/2022

On Thursday we had a workshop with Dee about Biodiversity, in conjunction with the Heritage in Schools Scheme. Dee spoke with us about pollinators, in particular, the Irish Honey Bee, butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies. We got to inspect a Honey Bee using magnifying lenses, learn about its development from egg to adult bee, smell a beeswax candle and look at the suit a beekeeper uses. We also got to see the pupa of a dragonfly and look at a variety of butterflies. It was a very interesting talk and we learnt some new information.

Farewell to Mrs. Horan

4/10/2022

We bid a very sad farewell to our fabulous teacher Mrs. Horan last Friday. Mrs. Horan worked here in Tang N.S. for nearly 15 years and was a hard-working, dedicated teacher in addition to being an immensely supportive colleague.  The children, in preparation for the event, worked very hard over the past month learning songs, designing posters, and writing poems and thoughtful letters for Mrs. Horan. We had a fun filled afternoon sharing our stories, songs and memories with her and her family. We also thank Fr. Godwin for saying a lovely mass for us, and Fr. Jerry who joined us for the occasion as a special surprise for Mrs. Horan. We wish Mrs. Horan the very best in her retirement.

Camogie Finals

4/10/2022

Congratulations to our girls who won their finals in camogie last weekend. Grace and Niamh played with Drumraney U12's against Delvin winning the Shield Cup. Alannah, Eva and Laura played on the U10's  team winning against Southern Gaels.

Fr. Dalton's Hurling Club visit

4/10/2022

Members of the Fr. Dalton's team who won the Senior B County Hurling championship came to visit our school and display their winning cup. The children were very excited to see the team and gave them a great cheer to congratulate them. Some of the children in our school currently play with Fr. Dalton's and were delighted to be able to have their photo taken with the team. Well done Fr. Dalton's on your historic win!
