Junior Infants, Senior Infants, 1st and 2nd class took a trip to Newcastle W0ods today where we looked for signs of Autumn. Chonaiceamar bláthanna corcra, duilleoga ildaite agus beacáin. The woods were lovely and fresh and there was a beautiful carpet of leaves to guide our way. We collected many leaf samples, berries, pine cones and nuts. Junior and Senior Infants were specifically on the lookout for the hedgehog and the horse chestnut tree, while 1st and 2nd class were looking for the oak tree and the woodlouse.

Children in 5th &6th class taking part in Maths activities during Maths week. Who knew Maths could be fun!
The children of 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th class spoke for an hour with engineer and former NASA astronaut, Dan Tani this afternoon. Dan told us all about his exciting 16 year career at NASA, his two space missions and six space walks. He was very generous with his time & was more than happy to answer all of our 21 questions. It was wonderful to have had the opportunity to speak with Dan & learn so many interesting facts about living and working in space.
Did you know that:
- Astronauts use Greenwich Mean Time when in space?
- You can see lightning from space?
-Space shuttles regularly get hit by micro meteoroids?
-It's possible to see rivers from space and also mountains when there's snow on them?
-When an astronaut returns to earth, it takes approximately a week to adjust to gravity again?
-Training for space included spending a week in an underwater lab in the Atlantic Ocean?
