Third Class are focusing on the Outdoor and Adventure strand in P.E. lessons for May and June. Today they took part in orienteering activities such as matching maps and identifying and reading map symbols. Super work Third Class!!! The new primary curriculum recognises the key role parents and guardians play in their child’s education and promotes a partnership approach which will encourage increased communication between schools and parents/guardians. https://www.gov.ie/pdf/?file=https://assets.gov.ie/261051/63552f2a-8ca3-4fa7-8d86-30a2b5077447.pdf#page=null There was great excitement amongst the children of Junior, Senior, 1st and 2nd class as they headed to TUS Athlone to enjoy activities organised by Let’s Go Camps. The weather was glorious as the children got to experience activities such as the Assault Course, indoor track athletics, Pony cycles, Bouncy Castle, KMX karts, Super Slide and Zorb Ball Roll to name a few. Below are pictures of some of the fun they had. On Tuesday the 13th of June the children in 3rd and 4th class set off on their School Tour. First stop was Shannon River Adventure Centre. Here the children took part in canoeing, pier jumping and kayaking. They also tried a mud slide. Following this, the children were brought to Sliabh Bawn where they walked some of the Sliabh Bawn Trail and were able to stand underneath some wind turbines. After we had worked up a sweat walking the Sliabh Bawn Trail the children boarded the bus back home to Tang. A wonderful day was had by all. Have a look at some of our photos. The girls were invited to attend a presentation in Pallas, Abbeyshrule where they were presented with their prizes. Well done girls. Táimíd an bhrodúil asaibh.
As part of our Green School Travel Flag initiative, the Junior and Senior Infants got to partake in a scooting workshop led by Laura from Green Schools. The children were thrilled to bring their scooters and helmets to school for the day and learn some basic rules on how to keep safe whilst scooting. Thank you to Laura for facilitating this. They have been working on reading maps and identifying map symbols from the Ordnance Survey Ireland. The children worked in groups and took part in orienteering activities to identify and draw the map symbols from the Ordnance Survey Ireland that were placed around our school grounds. Well done 3rd Class for all their hard work developing their teamwork, problem-solving and orienteering skills. Well done 3rd Class!!!
