Junior and Senior infants enjoying story time with 5th and 6th class.
Despite a misty start to the day we had great fun at Turoe Pet Farm bouncing, petting animals, playing football and playing in the playground.
On the 15th of June, 5th and 6th Class went to Lough Key Forest Park and Arigna Mines on their school tour. First we were shown a DVD about how miners mined coal and iron in the 1900s. Soon after that we were given hairnets and helmets and our tour guide Michael met us at the entrance and he took us on a guided tour of the mines.
When we arrived at Lough key Forest Park we were divided into groups and went into Boda Borg which to take part in a combination of physical and mental challenges.
After lunch we went on a nature walk where the guide filled us in on the history and nature of Lough key Forest Park and we got to climb the tower with 116 steps. The top was breath taking with a 360 view of the park. Lastly we played in the Adventure Play Kingdom. We’re never too old for swings and slides!!
Finally exhausted but happy we got on the bus and headed home.
On Thursday the 8th of June the children in 3rd and 4th class set off on their School Tour. First stop was Athenry Heritage Centre. Here the children took part in a maze run. They then tried their hands with Archery. Following this, the children were brought inside to try on some costumes from medieval times. After a short informative talk, the children got to participate in an interactive role- play session. We then boarded the bus to our second destination. The children were very excited upon entering Pure Skill in Galway. They were put into teams of four and were able to try their hands at different sports skills such as baseball, basketball, football, tennis and golf. After we had worked up a sweat the children boarded the bus back home to Tang. A wonderful day was had by all.
We're very proud of these girls from 4th, 5th and 6th classes. Their poetry entries received high acclaim in the Oliver Goldsmith competition.
The girls played brilliantly at the Cumann na mBunscol final last Thursday and we are very proud of them.
It was great to get the dry weather for Sports Day. We began with a fancy dress show, which was followed by team activity stations and we finished with the races. Well done to all the children (and mammies) who took part! Thank you to all the parents who helped out on the day.
