Overall 'Female Player of the Tournament' was awarded to our own Grace Reilly as a well deserved recognition of her contribution to our team and the day in general. The TY Students and their teachers had outlined at the start of the day how they would be looking out for the male and female player of the tournament that embodied the GAA motto of 'Give Respect, Get Respect' both on and off the field. This is very true of Grace and her commitment to every sport and every team whether she is playing for school, club or county community games. It was a very proud moment for our school to have this acknowledged on the day. Congratulations Grace! A huge 'thank you for having us' and 'well done for organising' to the TY students and the teachers in Mercy, Ballymahon.

The event was organised by the transition year students as part of the Future Leaders Transition Year Programme. It was a great day out and very well organised by the fantastic future leaders in Transition Year and our team were delighted to come home winners of the 11-a-side Plate. The children of 4th, 5th and 6th class had their science caps on today dissected hearts!!! Have a look at some of our great photos!!! 4th and 5th class were very excited to see if the potatoes that had been planted last year, had grown. They were not disappointed! They had great fun gathering the potatoes. They had quite a crop!! During Friendship week, the children participated in a variety of activities to promote kindness and friendship amongst each other. They all learnt what it means to be a friend and how they can show friendship to each other. The children in 4th and 5th class are currently focusing on the games strand of the P.E. curriculum. The children played different co-operative and community building games during their P.E. lesson. Finally, they finished their lesson with an obstacle course. Have a look at some of our photos from the obstacle course. Well done 4th and 5th Class. The Primary School Curriculum is changing and it is important that parents/guardians are aware of the changes that have taken place to date and what will be happening over the years to come. In this regard the Department of Education, in collaboration with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) and the Professional Development for Teachers (PDST), has developed a leaflet which is designed to introduce these changes and encourage parent/guardians to engage in the future consultations seeking feedback on the draft curriculum areas and subjects of the new curriculum. Please see below the leaflet regarding changes to the Primary Maths Curriculum.
Mr. Horan's 4th and 5th Class enjoyed book tasting today. His class 'tasted' different types of books. This will hopefully introduce the children to different types of books that they may not have otherwise been interested in. Please take the time to look at some of our photos from our book tasting event. Well done 4th and 5th Class!!! Mr. Horan's 4th and 5th Class are enjoying being back in school. Have a look at some of our first day back photos!! Enjoy!!! |
